III. Applications

Pneumocandin B0 is an antifungal lipopeptide and an effective antifungal agent that acts by inhibiting β-(1,3)-D-glucan, a basic component of the cell wall of susceptible fungi. It acts by inhibiting the synthesis of β-(1,3)-D-glucan (a component of the fungal cell wall) (IC₅₀ = 70 and 67 ng/ml for inhibiting glucan synthase and A1 in Candida albicans). It can be used for the synthesis of caspofungin acetate.
